Russia targeted Ukrainian territory with aerial assaults overnight on Saturday night and into Sunday morning, focusing on the major western city of Lviv.

Ukraine's neighbour Polish authorities activated fighter jets to ensure the safety of Polish airspace, the Polish military stated. NATO partner planes were similarly activated.

Lviv's regional head local authorities reported two individuals were killed in strikes in the region, and two more wounded.

In other developments, Russia again targeted energy infrastructure - and one was struck in an overnight attack on Zaporizhzhia region, where the city official said one person died and more than 73,000 people were without electricity.

Military Response

The Russian assaults came shortly following a US official indicated the US would endorse Ukrainian forces conducting long-range attacks inside Russian territory.

"Our and partner nations' jets are operating in Polish skies, while land-based anti-aircraft systems and surveillance radars have been brought to the highest state of readiness," Poland's operational command said.

At 05:10, all of Ukraine was under air raid alerts following air defense warnings of Russian missile and drone attacks.

Infrastructure Damage

Russian military has intensified its attacks on Ukraine's energy infrastructure.

Lviv's mayor local officials said several districts - 70 km from the border with Poland - had no power, adding that the local anti-aircraft units were engaged heavily in repelling first a drone and then a missile strike.

As of morning hours, parts of the city were experiencing outages and public transport was yet to start running, with Sadovyi stressing that it was "dangerous to go out into the streets".

In Zaporizhzhia, the nocturnal assault left "over seventy-three thousand users... without electricity", according to Ivan Fedorov.

One person was fatally wounded, and nine injured, Fedorov said.

A 16-year-old girl was among those requiring hospital treatment, officials noted, releasing images depicting a damaged multi-storey block and a destroyed vehicle from the impact location.

Regional Impact

Municipal transit in another western city, would "start running later than usual" on Sunday morning, its city administration said.

The series of attacks were part of Russia's threats against the entire nation overnight.

At around early morning, Ukrainian defense officials warned the entire territory was facing danger of fresh Russian missile attacks, following hours of air raid alerts and warnings of drone and missile attacks.

Territorial Control

Moscow's troops have taken control of most of Ukraine's eastern Donbas region, including key eastern cities.

Russia presently holds around a fifth of Ukrainian territory, including the Crimea region, which it seized in 2014.

Global Developments

In Russia, air defence units eliminated multiple UAVs during the night, media outlets reported on Sunday.

Recently, a US Special Envoy said that the United States would back Ukraine launching deep strikes inside Russian territories.

Meanwhile, another Nato member - Lithuania - had to suspend flights temporarily after unidentified items were detected.

Authorities halted air traffic at its main international airport for several hours, before resuming operations at 04:50 on Sunday.

The airport's operator stated the operational pauses and diversions were "because of a potential stream of aerial objects approaching the aviation facility".
